Maui: Day 1

Sunday, May 6, 2018

In March Chris and I spent a week in Maui with my in-laws and sister in law. We went to Kauai for our honeymoon (almost 6 years ago!) and have been dying to go back to the islands for years now. Last year, when we were all talking about our next family vacation, we decided Maui was the perfect spot. Initially we thought Graham would go, but as the date approached we decided against it. He lived it up at my parents and hardly even noticed we were gone!

When we landed in Maui, got our rental car (a jeep because thats mandatory when you go to Hawaii :)) and headed straight to the resort. When we pulled up we were in heaven! Everything was lush and vibrant, just as we had remembered.

For those wondering, the first part of our trip we stayed in a condo at Ho'olei at Grand Wailea. IT WAS AMAZING! We spoiled ourselves and swear we will never stay anywhere else when we go back to Maui. It was a dream! We opted for a condo (3 beds, 3.5 baths) because we love having a full kitchen, separate sleeping spaces, and the lanai was to die for. We spent 99% of our time lounging outside, mixing up pina coladas, reading, whale watching, and scheming how to ship Graham over :) Unfortunately, the weather was not in our favor for most of the trip, but having the lanai to relax on made up for it.

The moment we walked up the stairs we looked out and saw a HUGE whale jump. We brought binoculars, so we whipped those out and were in awe that we could see them from our lanai. I'm sure the concierge were thinking, "Typical tourists." Ha!

There are a million perks to staying at Ho'olei and one was that we were able to have our groceries delivered to the condo so we wouldn't have to waste anytime at the grocery store! After getting a tour of our condo from the concierge, we started busting out our snacks and drinks and went straight to lounging on the lanai.

We couldn't believe the views. They were breathtaking! We could see Molokini Crater and the island of Kaho'olawe from our condo.

After settling in, we headed out to explore the Grand Wailea. Y'all, I have been to a lot of beautiful resorts in my life, but none compare to how gorgeous the Grand Wailea is. It is grand and so, so spectacular. We spent some time roaming around, checked out the beach, and then decided to head to dinner. With the time difference, it was already well after midnight in Texas, so we were beat.

We ate dinner close to our resort at Manoli's Pizza. I wouldn't recommend it, ha! It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. We were tired and just needed some food and it got the job done.

That was day 1! I can't wait to post more about our trip. Going through our pictures has me itching to go back!!
